Track of the Week - 05/02/16

I've lost track of the number of years that I have been a fan of the antics of Oxford singer-songwriter Lewis Watson - he's been one of my favourite artists for so long and still is to this day. Lewis released his debut album 'The Morning' back in the summer of 2014 and it was wonderful - with many of the tracks from his previously released EPs featuring, along with several new songs, it was a treat for those people who had been following him since the beginning.
So when he premiered a brand new track from album number two last Friday, to say that I was excited was a huge understatement.
'Maybe We're Home' has come after much anticipation and teasing from Lewis about new music being on the way and it certainly doesn't disappoint. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the first few bars of the song, when the sound of an electric guitar featured so prominently, a refreshing change from the acoustic guitars which were mainly used on 'The Morning'.
This transition from very stripped back acoustic music has allowed Lewis' sound seem a lot more mature, something that many artists struggle to do well when creating a follow up record. His lyrics have always been wonderfully crafted on his tracks, and that is something that has remained constant in this new song, my favourite being the opening line of the chorus: "What if we were never meant to glow, maybe we'll never know", alluding to a lack of hope, but also of acceptance that things may not be going to plan for the time being.
The release of this single from Lewis' second LP has definitely made me very excited to see what the rest of the album will sound like, and also to hear his new material live at shows, as he is a wonderful performer that never disappoints.
